Training walks for Dudley's Dawdle - February 2010

Training walks for Dudley's Dawdle
Tuesday 09-02-10 Took X12 bus to Lymington and then 112 to Hythe. This was a new route I had not tried before and is a part of the Solent Way and a walk that I will have to cover in the main walk. From Hythe around the southern fringe to the A326, and then left alongside the B3054 to Beaulieu. Although accross the New Forrest this is not a very nice walk as it is not possible to walk off road. At Beaulieu the path goes alonside the Beaulieu River and to Bucklers Hard. From there there is a long stretch on country lanes and eventually arrives at Lymington by the ferry terminal. Although I had estimated this as an 11 mile walk the time it takes indicates it must be about 16miles. Distance 16miles.
Due to my medical condition this was the only walk I attempted in February. having been told originall that the wait would be 4-6 weeks, it was clear after twoo weeks of waiting that I would not be able to do the walk as planed in March/April starting on March 8th so all Youth Hostel bookings were transferrred [apart from two] to dates in September and October, with a planned start date of August 30th.
Total distance for the month 16 miles.

Total miles walked in September was approximately 87 miles. Distances are calculated by using a pedometer.

Dudley's Dawdle

Dudley's Dawdle
Dudley's Dawdle started as an idea about two years ago as a sponsoered walk to suport the work of Fulani Ministries which is a small Christian organisation working in Burkino Faso, which is a small landlocked country in the Sahel regon of west Africa imeddiately north of the Ivory Coast and Ghana. When I retired on October 2nd last year this gained momentum and I started to get in training and planing the walk. This went well until January 16th when I went into chronic urinary retension and had to be catheterised while waiting for a prostate operation. this meant that the "Dawdle2 which had been scheduled for a start on March 8th and to cover most of March and April had to be postphoned.
The revised dates were August 30th until October 21st. These have now been confirmed and I am back in training having ben re-admitted as an emergency to hospital on June 15th with a serious haemorrgh in the bladder/prostate area. This was very debilitating due to excessive blood loss. iam regaining my strength and I sdhall start dawdling along the south coast of England on August 30th.
